We recognise that families have a choice of secondary school, and we want to provide you with as much information as possible to help you at this time. The resources below will be updated over the coming months, to provide you with the details you need, when you need them.
Class visits to Trent
Starting in mid-November, Year 6 classes will be visiting to Trent to take part in discovery visits. These will be held in our specialist classrooms and will give children a great taster experience of lessons such as English, maths and sciences, as well as an introduction to our range of modern foreign languages. They will happen during the school day and no special preparation is needed.
Miss Philippa Braddow will be Head of Year 7 in September 2022. She will be popping over to The Elms from mid-November to introduce herself to all the children. This will be a chance to say hello and ask questions about the move to Trent.
We are very proud of the extensive co-curricular life of Trent. We have arranged some optional co-curricular sessions that children can choose to join. These will take place out of school hours, during the Michaelmas and Lent terms.
transition information evening
To help pupils and parents look ahead to Year 7, we were pleased to host an information evening on the 4th October. This event included a presentation from the Head, Mr Bill Penty, and the Head of Lower School, Mr Steve Wood, followed by tours of the school. You can view the presentation slides using the link below.
Choice of Year 7 Language
Children will study one modern foreign language in Year 7 and can choose from French, German or Spanish. Most children will continue with this language through to GCSE. Please click on the image (left) to view the video presentation for helpful information to support your child make his or her choice. We will ask you to confirm the language selection in May 2022.
Scholarships are awarded for excellence in the fields of Academic ability, Art, Drama, Music & Choral and Sport. They recognise a student’s specific flair and aptitude and identify potential for development. More details of the Scholarship Assessments for future Year 7 pupils and an application form are available in the links below.
BOARDING IN YEAR 7
Boarding can provide routine and structure for your child to maximise their learning time, whilst offering a unique model of support, encouragement, flexibility and integration. Living a distance from school is no longer the primary reason families choose boarding, with 80% of the weekly and flexi boarders at Trent living within a 45 minute drive-time of school.
Receive a warm welcome from the Trent staff who you would usually meet during a tour of the school and see inside our modern classrooms, specialist teaching areas and vast outdoor spaces.
