Taster Morning

In the absence of an onsite taster day, we were pleased to welcome children to our Virtual Taster Morning on 28 November. The event was run over a Zoom video call, with the children learning spells in Latin, completing a scavenger hunt in Sport, and calculating the trajectory of a basketball throw in Maths.  Children also met several members of Trent staff, and had a host of their questions answered.

Entrance exam

Children will take the entrance exam remotely, in their own homes, to account for current restrictions. There are two sittings in January – 16th and 30th. There is no advantage or disadvantage to attending earlier or later as the test is standardised to account for the child’s age on the date the test is taken. Follow the link for more details and for example questions.

Cognitive Abilities Test

Originally we had intended to do pupil interviews on the same day as the exams. Interviews will now only take place with children who have asked to be assessed for an Academic Scholarship. Children who have not applied for an Academic Scholarship will not be interviewed. Children who are having an interview are asked to complete a personal statement in advance, giving them a preview of some of the questions that will come up.

Scholarship Assessments

Scholarships are awarded for excellence in the fields of Academic ability, Art, Drama, Music & Choral and Sport. They recognise a student’s specific flair and aptitude and identify potential for development. Scholarship awards for entry into Year 7 September 2021 have now been made, but there will be opportunities for pupils to gain a Scholarship in later years.

Children were invited to join our fun after school activity evening on 22 February 2021. The virtual Harry Potter Book Night was hosted on Zoom by our Head of Devonshire Library, Ms Scothern. There were book readings, quizzes, a scavenger hunt and some children dressed up in Harry Potter-inspired costumes for the evening.

parents’ q&a event

Pre-season sport for new year 7 pupils

There will be pre-season training sessions for girls’ hockey and boys’ rugby from 10:00am until 11:30am on Saturday 4th September. This is open to all, irrespective of past experience. They are not compulsory sessions, although it would be most beneficial regarding preparation for the new season for pupils to attend. Full Trent sports kit will be needed, including gum shield, shin pads, hockey stick (girls) plus a water bottle.

Boarding in year 7

Boarding can provide routine and structure for your child to maximise their learning time, whilst offering a unique model of support, encouragement, flexibility and integration. Living a distance from school is no longer the primary reason families choose boarding, with 80% of the weekly and flexi boarders at Trent living within a 45 minute drive-time of school.
