mr Butler

Religious Studies teacher and Head of Year in Sixth Form

joined Trent College: 2014

Helping pupils to go further:

“It is essential that pupils develop a sense of self-belief so that they can be prepared for the decisions they will need to make once they have left Trent College.”

Central to the Sixth Form community

As a self-proclaimed “personal statement guru”, Mr Butler has guided many pupils through the UCAS application process, both at Trent and at a previous school. Mr Butler is also an EPQ (Extended Project Qualification) Supervisor, supporting pupils through their independent research projects.

Mr Butler is always delighted to see Sixth Formers take their next step after Trent, knowing he has supported them along the way. This makes “Strawberries”, the annual Sixth Formers Leavers’ Cabaret an even more enjoyable occasion.

Mr Butler assists in organising the Sixth Form PSHE curriculum, providing pupils with valuable life lessons. He also inspires new perspectives through thought-provoking assemblies.

Additional pupil opportunities

Through Mr Butler’s links with regional universities, pupils benefit from insightful visits and external outreach events. Every year he supports pupils who participate in the University of Nottingham Law department’s Mock Trial competition.

In addition, Mr Butler runs the Model United Nations General Assembly. This event attracts participation from pupils in Year 10 and Year 12 who re-enact UN meetings and engage in debates to seek to solve global issues.

As Service Leader, Mr Butler runs the Trent College NGO Amnesty International group. He also organises careers talks across the school – a talk from TV’s well-known wildlife presenter Steve Backshall was a particular hit with the school community.

Active beyond the classroom

Mr Butler has a Level 2 coaching qualification and coaches Sixth Form students in Badminton as well as Cricket to wider year groups.

Organising charity days is one of Mr Butler’s passions and he has raised many donations for Sports Relief and Comic Relief over the years. Mr Butler never misses an opportunity to explore the great outdoors and has participated in Field Day outings and Adventure Days.
