Helping pupils to go further

“My passion is to ensure every child has the opportunity to be stretched to meet their full potential. I believe that an inclusive environment is the key to providing a challenging, yet safe place in which to learn.”

Mrs Barclay

Deputy Head Academic

Joined the elms: 2017

Deputy Head (Academic) Mrs Barclay carries the momentum behind the innovative teaching that takes place in every classroom at The Elms.

With the support of a skilled team of teaching staff, she is responsible for maintaining the school’s reputation for academic excellence by implementing new and exciting initiatives that ensure standards of teaching at The Elms continue to be exceptional.

Vast experience

Mrs Barclay has over 12 years’ experience in teaching, having helped pupils achieve their potential in both state and independent schools across Nottinghamshire.

A specialist in Special Education Needs, Mrs Barclay is passionate about inclusivity in education and believes in a curriculum that helps every child achieve. She holds a National Award for SEN Coordination and was a member of the Nottinghamshire County SEND Accountability Board.

Supporting the school community

Mrs Barclay has also completed the Diana Award’s Anti-Bullying Ambassador Training and initiated the Anti-Bullying Ambassador Team at The Elms. Together with Mrs Deller, she helps the pupil ambassadors to raise awareness of bullying to maintain the friendly, accepting community at The Elms.

One of her favourite things about working at The Elms is having the opportunity to accompany pupils on their residential visits. So far Mrs Barclay has attended a number of trips and has loved the experiences provided by these opportunities.

Beyond the school gates, Mrs Barclay is the self-declared queen of whack-a-mole and enjoys regular spinning classes – her record is seven spin classes in one week!
