Throughout the year, students have been developing a wide range of skills through the CCF, and this final challenge gave them the chance to put those skills to the test across five core areas:
Drill
In a classic test of precision and unity, each House competed in a drill competition on the terrace. Cadets demonstrated teamwork, communication, and discipline, all under the sharp eyes of the judging staff.
Fieldcraft
Cadets had just ten minutes and basic kit to build the best possible shelter, followed by a walk down a challenging observation lane where they had to spot hidden equipment. This activity tested their planning, adaptability, and attention to detail in a simulated field environment.
Expedition Skills
A fast-paced game of map symbol Pictionary saw pairs of cadets describing and guessing key navigation icons, while a third teammate cracked clues in a map-based treasure hunt. Communication, quick thinking, and problem-solving were key to success here.
First Aid
Students tackled realistic scenarios they might face during a Duke of Edinburgh expedition. They had to demonstrate the correct steps for treating casualties, applying what they’d learned under pressure. Logical thinking and calm decision-making were vital.
Military Skills (Archery)
Each House selected their top archers for a tense competition of focus and nerve. Cadets fired nine arrows each, with only their best three counting toward the final score. Precision, control, and staying cool under pressure made all the difference.
CCF House Challenge
The atmosphere throughout the evening was electric, with cadets giving their all in every event. The final scores were tight but by a margin of three points, Owen House were declared the inaugural champions.
A fantastic end to a year of dedication, learning, and growth.
The Year 9 cadets now have the opportunity to continue their journey with the CCF by selecting to join the Army or RAF contingent for another optional year of training and learning, that will include the highly anticipated CCF Field Day and the chance to experience gliding.
