Lots to Explore & Do

Children at The Elms are very busy! Every day is different, with so much to try out, areas to explore and time to spend with friends and staff. Children in our Nursery & Pre-School thrive in the environment of fun, discovery and variety that we create.

Singing & Music

Singing, musical instruments and nursery rhymes are loved throughout Nursery and Pre-School and are enjoyed regularly in structured activities. Movement and music combine for maximum fun in our Nursery ‘Wake and Shake’ sessions, whilst imagination and self-expression flourish in Pre-School’s weekly Dance and Drama lessons.

Messy Play

Messy play in Nursery and Pre-School provides your child with all the benefits of unstructured creativity and sensory stimulation without needing you to tidy up afterwards! The children love exploring an assortment of materials, from paint and shaving foam to cornflour.

Woodland Adventures

All of our children enjoy daily outdoor play and activity, with regular opportunity to explore the grounds. Pre-School children discover nature further at their weekly Forest School sessions. Set in our onsite woodlands, Forest School connects children with their natural surroundings through exploration and adventure.

Story Time

Our staff and children read together every day and have weekly visits to the infant library at The Elms. Story time is a fun group activity where every story is brought to life with interaction. We also have a large selection of books for little bookworms to explore during free play to encourage a life-long love of reading.

Wider School Community

When children join Nursery & Pre-School, they are also welcomed into the bigger whole school community of The Elms and Trent.  From Pre-School, this community experience will see the children face new challenges and opportunities as they prepare for school, such as assemblies, Sports Day and attending The Elms annual Speech Day.

Parent Perspective

“The Elms Pre-school has been a home from home for our son. He is always excited to go in the morning and has so much to tell us on the way home about what he has been doing. Forest school is a particular favourite and there are such wonderful grounds for the children to explore.”
