Visiting Music Teacher – Lower Brass
Trent College & The Elms

The Music Department is seeking an exceptional and inspirational Visiting Music Teacher specialising in Lower Brass to join our highly successful and collaborative team. The successful candidate will deliver high‑quality individual lessons and contribute to the thriving musical life of both Trent College and The Elms.
Working with pupils across a wide age range, you will play an important role in developing technical skill, musicality, and confidence, while supporting the department’s commitment to excellence in performance and musical education.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach individual Lower Brass lessons (subject to pupil allocation by the Director of Music).
- Respond to Trent College emails in a timely and professional manner.
- Report on pupil progress in line with the school’s reporting schedule.
- Rehearse ensembles as directed by the Director of Music.
- Enter pupils for appropriate examinations, festivals, and competitions in line with departmental aims.
- Always maintain professional conduct, recognising that you represent the school in a public capacity.
- Identify and recommend potential music scholarship or exhibition candidates.
- Report any concerns relating to Child Protection, Bullying, Welfare, or Safeguarding.
- Highlight concerns regarding pupil underperformance, attendance, or commitment to the Director of Music.
- Meet all deadlines set by the Director of Music and/or Music Administrator.
- Attend or complete all required INSET training as requested by Trent College or the Director of Music.
About You
We are looking for a skilled and enthusiastic Lower Brass specialist with a broad knowledge of their first study instrument and other lower brass instruments. You will be confident teaching a range of genres including classical, contemporary, and pop/jazz, and committed to supporting pupils of varying ages and abilities.
You will be personable, organised, and passionate about inspiring young musicians, contributing positively to a busy and ambitious Music Department.
Working Pattern
This is a peripatetic role with hours dependent on pupil uptake. Teaching takes place during the school day, with some flexibility required to support rehearsals, events, and performances.

Exam Invigilator
Trent is a successful selective day and boarding school where academic excellence, sporting achievement, musical accomplishment and participation in the arts are all highly prized.
We require External Invigilators to work on a seasonal basis during the school exam periods, January, May and June each year. Reporting to the Examinations Officer, the post holders will work to ensure that examinations are conducted in accordance with relevant policy from the awarding body (Joint Council for Qualifications) and internal school procedure.
Duties will include distributing exam question papers, completing attendance registers and collecting completed scripts. You will also be expected to ensure disruption within the exam room is kept to a minimum, dealing with any emergencies or irregularities appropriately.
The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, have a confident and reassuring presence and be able to cope well under pressure. Although previous invigilation experience is highly desirable, full training will be provided. Due to the casual, seasonal nature of the role, candidates must be flexible in order to meet the requirements of the school.
