As Head of Chemistry, Dr Wakerley is responsible for the teaching and learning of Chemistry across Years 7 – 13.
Recognised for excellence
Dr Wakerley has achieved a strong academic status in the industry. She has a BSc Honours Applied Chemistry (First) and her PhD studies focused on the academic research of the synthesis of tremogenic mycotoxins, Lolitrem B. In addition, Dr Wakerley has had many peer reviewed academic papers published in scientific journals to disseminate her knowledge and passion for the subject.
With a Diploma in Industrial Studies and having conducted industrial research at DowElanco, Dr Wakerley’s experience covers a range of commercial sectors.
Her membership to the Royal Society of Chemistry ensures Dr Wakerley is also abreast of the latest research and knowledge, which she is able to share with her pupils.
Teaching career
With over 25 years of teaching in a range of schools, Dr Wakerley is experienced in helping pupils of all ages to find their passion with the study of Chemistry, as well as helping many realise how important Chemistry qualifications can be in obtaining their dream career when leaving school or via a university course.
Dr Wakerley demonstrates her commitment to further her professional development by taking on the additional roles of an examiner at A Level (AQA) and IGCSE (Edexcel).
lEARNING BEYOND THE CLASSROOM
Dr Wakerley is a firm believer that learning can take many forms. In 2014, she organised the inaugural trip to CERN and United Nations in Geneva which was a fantastic experience for pupils and since which many more have followed in their footsteps.
To support pupils on their journeys to become the next generation of scientists, Dr Wakerley is an advocate of the CREST Awards. Through the award, students benefit from a nationally recognised achievement for their project-led work.
