There are musical opportunities for everyone at The Elms. Pupils can discover new instruments, find their voices in the school choir or simply enjoy exploring music with their classmates in lessons.
better together
The 29 school ensembles that rehearse each week are a testament to our belief that music is an experience best shared. When pupils create music together, they develop new and existing skills in a fun, social environment. Our spacious Music School studios allow large ensembles to practise comfortably.
Specialists
All pupils enjoy weekly lessons with a specialist music teacher. In Year 2 pupils are introduced to the recorder and begin reading notation. In Juniors, pupils enhance rhythmic and pitch awareness, learn music theory and receive additional guidance from visiting instrumental teachers.
Sponsored Orchestral scheme
To allow every pupil the opportunity to become a musician, The Elms offers an orchestral sponsorship scheme for all pupils in Year 3 or new starters in the junior year groups. Individual and ensemble tuition is provided on a wide variety of orchestral instruments. Pupils are inspired and enthused by talented, experienced, instrumental teachers and are equipped for the musical journey ahead.
Time to shine
There are a variety of performance opportunities for pupils to share their skills with the school community. These performances are essential for encouraging and celebrating pupil development. Parents are invited to see their child’s progress first-hand during open weeks and in school showcases.
Exam Success
All instrumentalists enter external examinations in Years 4, 5 and 6. Our excellent pass rate reflects the strength of our music provision and staff commitment. When our musicians leave The Elms, many have achieved Grade 4 in their instruments, and with GCSE entry requiring a Grade 5, they are certainly ahead of the game!
