We are delighted that you have registered your child for a place in Year 7 at Trent College. The resources below will be updated over the coming months, with the aim of providing you with all the information you need, when you need it.

Staff introductions
Mr Setterington will be Head of Year 7 in September 2023. He is looking forward to meeting the children during the Discovery Morning, interviews and on the day of the entrance exam.

Discovery Day
We are delighted to welcome children on a taster morning at Trent College on Saturday 3rd December. This is a chance to explore, meet new friends and really get to know our school. Lunch is available for children and their families at the end of the morning.

Scholarship Assessments
Scholarships are awarded for excellence in the fields of Academic ability, Art, Drama, Music & Choral and Sport. They recognise a student’s specific flair and aptitude and identify potential for development. More details of the Scholarship Assessments for future Year 7 pupils and an application form are available in the links below.

Interview and EntrancE aSSESSMENTS
Individual interview times will be scheduled for the morning of Saturday 14 January. This will be a one-to-one chat with a member of staff so that we get to know each child as an individual. The Entrance Exam will be held on the morning of Saturday 28 January, and comprises of a Cognitive Abilities Test and an English essay.

SCHOOL UNIFORM AND SHOP
Full details are available in the handbook. All branded items are available from the onsite School Uniform Shop as well as on the supplier’s website. We highly recommend booking your appointment for a fitting during the summer term, to ensure that all items can be ordered in time for the start of the school term.

Learning Support
It is important for us to know whether your child has ever had an assessment for any type of specific learning difficulty, or any other speech or literacy difficulty. The assessment may have been carried out by a specialist teacher, an educational psychologist or a health professional. If so, and you have not already provided this information to The Elms or to Mrs Pearce-McNeill, please send a copy of the report to Head of Learning Support, Trent College. Individual tuition by specialist teachers is available, and is charged per 30 or 60 minute lesson.
choice of year 7 language
The Modern Languages Department looks forward to welcoming all our new Year 7 pupils to Trent College in September. Follow the links for a helpful presentation on choosing your language, and to make your selection.

Instrumental & Vocal Lessons
Music is embedded into the life of Trent College, and we offer a wide range of opportunities for musicians of all styles and abilities.

LAMDA Lessons
The objectives of LAMDA (The London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art) include improving the standard of communication through the spoken word and performance; empowering individuals by helping to develop their self-confidence and self-esteem; and fostering an appreciation of classic and contemporary literature and drama.

Boarding in year 7
Boarding can provide routine and structure for your child to maximise their learning time, whilst offering a unique model of support, encouragement, flexibility and integration. Living a distance from school is no longer the primary reason families choose boarding, with 80% of the weekly and flexi boarders at Trent living within a 45 minute drive-time of school.

Bus Service
The schools currently operate an extensive network of services across the East Midlands, serving the urban areas of Derby and Nottingham as well as the surrounding rural areas of Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire. With over 100 stops on the network, our school bus service is designed to cater for as many parents as possible. Bus travel can be booked using the Skills Motor Coaches Portal.
