Mrs Sherwood
Reception Teacher and EYFS Leader
Joined The Elms: 2016
Mrs Sherwood inspires the youngest members of our school community through her roles as EYFS Leader and Reception class teacher.
Developing a love for learning
As EYFS Leader Mrs Sherwood oversees all teaching and learning across the Nursery, Pre-School and Reception to ensure pupils develop the right skill set for the future whilst enjoying the learning process. In addition to this, Mrs Sherwood regularly attends conferences and local authority meetings as well as meeting with local Reception teachers from other schools to share best practice.
On a day to day basis, Mrs Sherwood can be found in The Lower Elms with her Reception class where she works alongside fellow teachers, to teach, plan and assess the Reception pupils in their care.
During her time at The Elms, Mrs Sherwood has enjoyed making changes to the EYFS offering to create the wonderful environment that pupils enjoy today. Her hard work has created learning spaces that feel calm and inviting as well as engaging and stimulating.
To enable enhanced communication with parents about their child’s progress and daily activities at school, Mrs Sherwood also leads on the school’s communication platform Tapestry, which is enjoyed by parents across the EYFS age group.
Passion for teaching
Before joining The Elms, Mrs Sherwood taught Year 1 and Year 2 pupils at a state school. She is also a specialist teacher in gym and dance as well as being qualified to teach ballet, tap and modern dance. Mrs Sherwood’s strong love of dance saw her perform the 2012 Olympics Closing Ceremony in a ballet dance with Darcey Bussell called ‘Spirit of the Flame.’
