Sixth Form students at Trent College are today celebrating their academic achievements with the publication of their A Level and BTEC examination results.
2026 A Level results
- 11% of all entries achieved A* grade
- One third of all entries achieved A* or A grade (33%)
- Two thirds of entries have been awarded A* to B grades (66%)
- 99.2% pass rate at A Level
Celebrating today are:
- Darsh Asher achieved A*, A*, A*, A* (Chemistry, Mathematics, Further Maths, Physics) and A* in his EPQ. Head of School Darsh was also Head of Army for the school’s Combined Cadet Force, Master Cadet, and led the Drama Technical team. He will now read Mechanical Engineering at Imperial College London. Darsh said “I am very pleased with my results. I started at Trent in Year 8, having just come from India, so it was a very big change. I was so well accommodated. The best thing about Trent has been the opportunity to do things outside of my academics. It’s pushed me to become the person I am today.”
- Isobel Kelly achieved A*, A*, A, B (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics). Senior Prefect Isobel, who is an u21 Wales International golfer, said, “I kept thinking that my exams had gone badly, but obviously, when I opened my results, I was really happy. I’m having two years out to play golf, and then I want to go to Cardiff University to study Medicine. I want to be a heart surgeon.”
- Vlad Oxley achieved A*, A*, A* (History, Politics, Religious Studies) and will now read History at Durham University. Vlad said, “My time at Trent really has been so special. It has been like a home away from home. The community and support here have helped me to achieve beyond what I expected, and it may now open the pathway to go into Law.”
- Amy Wilson achieved A*, A*, A (Art & Design, Photography, Business Studies) and will now read Fine Art at Loughborough University. Amy said, “I’m so happy! The school, the teachers and the excellent facilities here have all helped me to achieve these results. Loughborough is my first choice and I’m looking forward to studying Fine Art there.”
Also celebrating are:
- Joe Painter achieved A*, A, B (Economics, History, Mathematics) and an A in his EPQ and will now read Accounting and Finance at the University of Bath. Joe, who plays hockey for Wales, said, “Trent has been a wonderful experience for me. The teachers have been fantastic and always helped me when I needed it, including at break and lunchtimes. My time in the Sixth Form has been special. The sport has been incredible, and I’ve made friends for life.”
- Harley James has achieved A, A, B (Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics) and will now study Computer Science at the University of Birmingham. Harley said, “I am really pleased and want to thank the teachers for their amazing support to help me achieve this. I’m so happy with the results and my time here.”
- Mary O’Brien achieved A, B, B (Design & Technology, Maths, Physics) and will now read Biomedical Engineering at University of York. As Head of the school’s RAF contingent of the Combined Cadet Force (CCF), Mary said, “My time at Trent has been so special and one of my fondest memories was gliding with the cadets, which pushed me and increased my confidence to achieve. I’m so happy with my results, particularly my Physics, which I really focused on.”
- Luca Bussell achieved A*, A*, C (Art & Design, Design & Technology, Mathematics). Luca will now read Product Design at the University of Leeds. Luca was also Head of Contingent for the school’s Combined Cadet Force, Master Cadet, and first team hockey captain. Luca said, “I’m so pleased. I’ve had an incredible time at Trent and would not have wanted to be anywhere else but here! The teachers have helped in every way possible, and I will take the values that they have taught me to Leeds.”
Head of Trent College, Mr Bill Penty, commenting on his last set of A Level results ahead of his retirement, said, “Our students’ hard work and talent are demonstrated by today’s published results. I fully congratulate them on their achievements.
“Our students have not only achieved these strong exam results, but also a wide range of other achievements within Trent College, which have prepared them with vital skills such as resilience, leadership, critical thinking and self-confidence, which will enable them to go on and flourish in a modern world.
“Our vibrant Sixth Form adds significant value to our pupils’ outcomes as demonstrated by the Department for Education’s ‘Value Added’ Progress Scores, where our Sixth Form is rated in the highest category for the second year running with ‘Well Above Average’.
“I’d like to thank our community of parents and their wider families and our dedicated teaching staff for all that they have done, and all that they continue to do for our school as we move forward into the next chapter of Trent College.”
Along with the rigours of A Level studies and extra-curricular pursuits, 13 students took on the challenging Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) with seven students achieving A* or A grades.
Today also saw the publication of BTEC results. Trent College student and first team hockey captain, Jessie Mauro, achieved D*, D*, D* (triple Distinction star) in the BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Sport. Jessie has already taken up her hockey scholarship at Indiana University, USA. Jessie said “I’ve dreamt of studying abroad since I was 8. Trent has helped me follow that dream. Not everyone takes the traditional A-level route. Trent provided the course that suited me. Go for your dreams. Enjoy school. It goes by so quickly. Your teachers are always here to help, and your friends will push you forward.”
