Mr wood

class teacher and history lead

Joined The Elms: 2018

As a Year 4 Class Teacher and History Lead at The Elms, Mr Wood is responsible for inspiring a passion for History in the pupils through interactive and creative lessons. He offers academic excellence by delivering historical content in an engaging and informative method of teaching.

Mr Wood’s Background

For over a decade Mr Wood was a Journalist, he covered a variety of sports from rugby fixtures at Twickenham to a World Heavyweight Title Fight and has interviewed sporting celebrities such as Tyson Fury. His creative writing style was a skill that he has translated into teaching, by applying it to class assemblies, drama production scripts and lesson planning.

Involvement in School Life

Mr Wood has embraced being part of The Elms family, beyond the classroom he heads up our successful Chess Club that has over 40 children taking part in fixtures. Additionally, Mr Wood has organised trips and events such as The National Civil War Museum, Hindu Temple and Pokémon Hunts. Moreover, he has been an incremental part of residentials to the Isle of Wight and Weymouth.

Highlights at The Elms

As a result of Mr Wood’s involvement at The Elms he is rememberable figure for his previous pupils now at Trent College, with many of them often stopping to have conversation with him. One of Mr Wood’s highlights at The Elms is his pen pal scheme with a Japanese School, this is a great example of how he provides opportunities to our children they would not be able to experience at many other schools.
