Helping pupils to go further

“I build up independence and resilience in children so that they have the confidence to go further and ask the questions they never thought they would want to ask!”

Miss Avison

Class teacher

Joined The Elms: 2018

Miss Avison is a valued member of The Elms community as a Year 2 class teacher and year group PE teacher.

Love of teaching

Miss Avison studied for her PGCE after completing a degree in Politics and International Relations. During this time, she also volunteered in a school and orphanage in Sri Lanka and Nepal. As a qualified Young Leader for Girl Guiding, Miss Avison has developed many skills outside of the classroom environment that she can use to inspire a love of learning in her pupils.

In addition, Miss Avison has taken on the role of Key Stage 1 Maths Lead. This involves overseeing the maths curriculum for pupils in Reception to Year 2 and looking for new innovative ways to bring learning to life.

Passion for sport

Before joining The Elms, Miss Avison was the PE lead at her previous school and now shares her love for sporting activities with Elms pupils as a PE teacher for Year 2 children. To enhance her role within the school, Miss Avison is also working towards her swimming teacher qualification and hopes to be leading classes in the on-site swimming pool shortly.

In her spare time, Miss Avison enjoys sports for her personal pleasure including horse riding and running.

Highlights at The Elms

Miss Avison greatly enjoyed The Elms 20th Anniversary celebrations in 2019 as the date was shared with her own birthday! The high spirits and fun activities taking place across the school were the perfect way to celebrate with the school community.
