Mrs Starbuck
Head of Careers
Joined Trent College: 2013
As Head of Careers, Fiona Starbuck is responsible for co-ordinating the careers provision for every pupil at Trent College, enabling them to consider new possibilities for the future.
Preparation for the future
It is Mrs Starbuck’s responsibility to ensure pupils leave the school with the skills and knowledge to maximise their future opportunities. This is achieved through her creation of a vast careers programme that is designed to educate pupils on a diverse range of professions. Mrs Starbuck passionately believes that creativity is an important element of the careers provision and is therefore continually looking for new and innovative ways to facilitate interactive learning.
Commercial experience
Having spent many years working in a range of diverse industries, including the creative and commercial sectors, Mrs Starbuck brings real world experience to the Careers department. This ensures she is well placed to offer guidance on the variety of progression routes available to pupils after the completion of their studies in either an academic or commercial environment. Mrs Starbuck has a Post Graduate Certificate in Careers Guidance and is a professional member of the Career Development Institute to ensure she is always abreast of new and changing guidance that may impact our pupils.
Supportive environment
Based in the Careers Hub, Mrs Starbuck provides support and guidance for pupils at different stages of their career considerations. From working with Sixth Formers to identify suitable university courses and guiding them through their applications to UCAS or an Apprenticeship scheme, , to supporting Main School pupils to secure a work experience placement and investigate the relevance of their A level choices.
Mrs Starbuck is an Old Trident (Trent College Alumni) herself, which enables a deeper connection with the pupils and school life. When hearing Mrs Starbuck work alongside pupils on their decision making, it is no surprise to discover that Mrs Starbuck also has a background in pastoral support – an increasingly relevant skill in careers interactions.
