Helping pupils to go further

“Maintaining excellence and breadth within our curriculum ensures pupils are engaged in their learning.”

Mr Brumby

Deputy Head Academic

joined Trent College: 2018

Responsible for the leadership of all academic aspects of the school is Mr Brumby,  Deputy Head Academic.

First class education

Mr Brumby is responsible for developing, communicating and implementing a vision for the teaching and learning of Trent, to ensure pupils are developing the skills they need for an ever-changing future. As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, he leads the development of academic policy and actively participates in the strategic management of the school.

Working closely with the Heads of Departments, Mr Brumby reviews and develops the full academic curriculum at Trent. He manages all academic data, internal and external assessment and reporting throughout the school, to support and drive pupil progress.

Mr Brumby also leads the continuing improvement in standards of teaching and learning of Trent’s staff to ensure high academic standards are achieved and sustained across the school.  He feels strongly that everyone should be continuously engaging in professional development, working towards providing the best education that we can for the children in our care. Mr Brumby has delivered Academic Management courses for the HMC’s Professional Development (HMCPD) service, who are renowned for providing unparalleled quality of training within the independent school sector, and has been an exam marker for AQA on the Further Maths paper.

Notwithstanding his executive responsibilities, Mr Brumby retains classroom teaching responsibilities in Mathematics for some of Trent’s GCSE and A Level pupils. With over 20 years teaching experience in both independent and state sector schools, he remains passionate about inspiring pupils within the classroom and firmly believes that it is a privilege to teach the next generation.

Central to the school

During the Covid-19 pandemic, Mr Brumby was fundamental in the rapid launch of Trent’s remote learning provision. Mr Brumby is extremely proud of his team who responded so rapidly to ensure the continued online education of Trent’s pupils across all subjects.
