Role and Responsibilities

With responsibility for co-ordinating all aspects of Trent’s Co-Curricular programme across the school, Ms Matthews is constantly amazed by the commitment, enthusiasm and energy shown by pupils each day, as they discover new talents and excel in passions outside of the classroom.

Committed to celebrating Co-Curricular pupil achievements wherever they occur, Ms Matthews frequently attends events and activities in and out of school. Whether it be cheering at the side-lines of the sports pitch, enjoying drama productions and music concerts, supporting the CCF or DofE groups out in the field, or taking teams down to a charity project, she sees her own personal involvement in Co-Curricular school life as key.

Teaching Career

Since commencing her teaching career as an English teacher in 1996, Ms Matthews continues to teach across the age range, from Year 7 up to GCSE and A level. As an avid fan of modern and classic literature, it is no surprise that Ms Matthews is a keen participant in book character fancy dress days at the school. Atwood’s ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ and Dickens’ ‘Tale of Two Cities’ have been notable successes!

Prior to her current Co-Curricular role, Ms Matthews was Head of Sixth Form at Trent College for 10 years. The vibrant, forward-thinking atmosphere the Sixth Form has today is testament to her dedication over the years.

Passionate About Education

The additional responsibility of being an Inspector for the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) positions Ms Matthews as an integral member of the Executive Leadership Team, who all assist with driving forward the vision of the school.
