understanding our philosophy

The 3Ps are communicated widely and regularly, and our pupils understand where they fit along the sliding scale between competition and participation. Encouragingly, the benefit is that they can see a pathway to achieving a higher level – whether that be representing the school, achieving a new personal best or striving to become a national champion.

the foundations of our sports programme

Participation

The primary aim of the sports programme is to create opportunity for participation. This is achieved through the variety of our offering, including: Athletics, Badminton, Indoor Hockey, Rugby 7s, Swimming, Football, Golf, Adventure Sports, use of the Gym, Dance and Aerobics.

Progression

Our progression sports are competitive with appropriately matched fixture lists. Variations of performance sports are ran during the ‘progression’ term such as Indoor Hockey and and Rugby 7s.

Performance

For pupils who excel in a sport, we deliver the highest level of support to enhance their talent. Performance sports are Rugby, Hockey and Cricket for boys, and Hockey, Netball and Tennis for girls.

Sports Tours

Trent’s Performance Sports Tours take place regularly, and recent examples have varied from a weekend of Rugby in Scotland to a fortnight of Cricket in Dubai. These trips are exciting opportunities for pupils to develop their performance, resilience, teamwork and accountability and to bond with teammates.

RECOGNISING EXCELLENCE THROUGH SCHOLARSHIPS

Sport scholars will sit right at the top of their year group in terms of sporting excellence, demonstrate leadership potential and be a role model to other students. There are two types of scholarships available dependent on the year of entry which require pupils to demonstrate a proven track record in our performance sports.
